Question

Assalam
I know someone who had ruqya performed on him and paid rs10,000
So,I would like to know the price for ruqya in mauritius and also, if it's normal to pay rs10,000 for it?

Answer

Walaikum salam warahmatullah

There are two types of Ruqya; permissible one and non permissible one. The permissible one is such Ruqya that is done by using Quranic words and words that are derived from Hadith. For example, the recitation of Surah Fatihah, Ayatul Kursi, Surah Ikhlas, Falaq, Naas, etc. and Duas taught by Rassulullah(Sallallaahu alaihi wassallam).

The non-permissible Ruqya is that which is made up of words besides the Quran and hadith, and the usage of impermissible and shirki words. This one is totally Haraam and Sinful, let alone charging a fee for it.

As far as taking fee for the first category is concerned, based on some ahaadith in Bukhari and Muslim it is permissible on condition that the person doing it knows how to do it and he is not bluffing people. There is no fixed charge stipulated by Shariat.
In fact, the charge is based on mutual agreement. However, one should not take advantage of the situation and charge an exorbitant fee. If it is done free of charge then one will be rewarded tremendously. This ruling applies to everywhere, not only in Mauritius.
