Reading Sana when we replace a Rak'at with the Imam

Q. If I miss the first ruk'u, should I read the Sana' (subhanakallahumma) when I replace this rak'at?

R. One should not read the Sana:

  1. If one joins the Jama'ah when the Imam is reciting the Qira'at aloud (Qira'at-e-Jahr, i.e., a Salah where the Imam should read the Qur'an aloud).

  2. If one joins the Jama'at in the position of ruk'u and sajdah, and he fears that he may miss the ruk'u or sajdah.

  3. In the position of Qaidah (sitting).

Coming to your question, if you missed the first Rak'at and joined the Jama'ah in one of the above positions and you have not read the Sana, then you must read it when you replace the missed Rak'at.
