Consulting a non-Muslim healer when a person is possessed / bewitched

Q. Is it permissible in Islam to consult a non-Muslim healer when a person is possessed / bewitched?

A. Every Muslim must believe that there is no deity except Allah, while non-Muslims invoke other so-called deities besides Allah. Invoking others besides Allah Ta'ala is Shirk and Kufr. When one consults such a 'healer' it is in fact encouraging him and giving him the opportunity to commit Shirk (polytheism). Encouraging or giving the opportunity to commit Shirk is Shirk and Kufr because being satisfied with an act of Kufr is nothing other than Kufr.

When one goes to consult a healer it is as if one asks a person to recite or do something that is Kufr or Shirk. This is why consulting a non-Muslim healer is an act of Kufr which is obviously strictly forbidden in Islam.

It should be noted here that this prohibition does not only affect those who consult a non-Muslim healer but also those who visit a "Muslim" healer if the latter:

  1. invokes a jinn, or
  2. invokes other "divinities" or creatures.

A "Muslim" who indulges in such acts (invoking other "divinities" or creatures) is Muslim in name only because by his practice he has put himself outside the fold of Islam.
