Having an abortion after being raped

Q. A Muslim girl is raped by a non-Muslim and becomes pregnant. Can she have an abortion?
A. A woman who is four months pregnant or more is not permitted by Shari'ah under any circumstances to have an abortion, even if her life is in danger.

However, if the pregnancy period is less than four months and there are valid reasons that justify having an abortion - such as if the woman's health is deteriorating or her life is in danger - then she can have an abortion. This is the general rule that applies to everyone.

In the above case, the permissibility of an abortion (before the four-month period of pregnancy) depends on the case and the condition of the woman concerned.

Before resorting to abortion, each person's case must be studied individually and in light of the facts.
