"Wet dream" while fasting

Q. Is the fast broken as a result of a "wet dream"?

A. No, the fast is not broken by a wet dream. In a Hadith recorded by Abu Dawood, Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"Neither the one who vomited, nor the one who experienced ihtilaam (a wet dream), nor the one who had a blood sample taken should break the fast."

In another Hadith, Hadhrat Abu Sa‘id Al-Khudri (Radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"There are three things that do not break the fast: having a blood sample taken, vomiting, and ihtilaam."

It should be emphasised that this refers specifically to involuntary vomiting. If, however, a person induces vomiting deliberately, and it fills the mouth, then the fast is broken.
