TASBEEHAAT

On one occasion, Hadhrat Fatimah (Radiyallahu ‘anha), the daughter of Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam), came to the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) and described the hardship she faced in carrying out her domestic chores. She requested a servant to help her. In response, the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said to his beloved daughter that he would give her something better than a servant.

He taught her the following Tasbeeh to recite after every Fardh Salah and before going to bed:

  • Subhaanallah 33 times
  • Alhamdulillah 33 times
  • Allahu Akbar 34 times

This Tasbeeh is known as Tasbeeh-e-Fatimah among scholars because it was taught specifically to Hadhrat Fatimah (Radiyallahu ‘anha).

Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) also taught his Ummah a similar Tasbeeh to be recited after every Fardh prayer:

  • Subhaanallah 33 times
  • Alhamdulillah 33 times
  • Allahu Akbar 33 times
  • Followed by:
La ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadeer

The reward for reciting this Tasbeeh is the forgiveness of one’s sins, even if they are as numerous as the foam of the sea.

According to another Hadith, whoever recites:

  • Subhaanallah 33 times
  • Alhamdulillah 33 times
  • Allahu Akbar 34 times

after Fardh Salah will not suffer failure.

Regrettably, very few people benefit from the immense rewards of these short yet powerful actions (A‘maal), which take only two or three minutes to complete. It has become common for many Musallis to stand up and leave immediately after the Imam finishes the Salaam.

We must remember that even small deeds will weigh heavily on the scale on the Day of Qiyaamah. At that moment, nothing will assist us except our good deeds. Tasbeehaat fill the scale and earn rewards as vast as the distance between the earth and the sky. They are the trees of Paradise.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said that the practice of Tasbeehaat is easy, but the reward is immense—yet very few people will act upon it. When asked why, Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) explained that Shaitaan reminds the Musalli of some task awaiting him even before the Salah concludes. Thus, the Musalli rushes to attend to his task and neglects the Tasbeehaat as soon as the Salah ends.

May Allah grant us the Taufeeq to practise these simple but immensely rewarding Tasbeehaat, and may He protect us from the traps set by Shaitaan. Ameen.
