FOOD FOR THOUGHT - THE MODESTY OF THE PROPHET (SALLALLAAHU 'ALAIHI WASALLAM)
Hadhrat Abu Salamah (Rahimahullah) reported the following:
"I asked Abu Sa'id: 'What do you think of the innovations introduced by the people regarding clothing, eating, drinking, and riding?'
He replied, "My son, eat, drink, and dress in accordance with the precepts of Allah, without vanity or ostentation. If you mix pride, display, ostentation, and fame with these, it becomes a sin and a waste."
At home, engage in the activities that the Prophet (Sallallaahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) used to do. He would feed the camel, tie it, clean his house, milk his sheep, sew his shoes, mend his clothes, eat with his servant, and help him grind grain if he was tired. He would go to the market to shop and was not ashamed to carry what he bought in his hand or in the hem of his garment. He would shake hands with the rich and the poor, the young and the old. He always began by greeting those he met first, whether they were young or old, black or white, slaves or free citizens of the Muslim community."
