Alimony (maintenance) from the ex-husband

Q. Is a divorced woman entitled to alimony (maintenance) from her ex-husband?

A. During the period of "'Iddah" the man must provide the woman with sustenance - food, drink and shelter. Note that the 'Iddah for a woman who is still menstruating is a period of three Haiz. And for a woman who has already reached menopause, i.e. who no longer has her periods, the 'Iddah is a period of three months while for a pregnant woman, the 'Iddah will extend until delivery.
