The Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam)
The Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) is something very substantial and wonderful. It embellishes our lives. It illuminates our hearts and minds. Only those who are truly fortunate have the will power to practice it. It is a sign of love for Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam). Practicing something from the Deen without observing the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam), is similar to food which has no salt in it and to a drawing with no colour. The true sweetness and taste of 'Ibaadah is attained by engaging in this 'Ibaadah while respecting the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam). Allah Ta'aala does not appreciate an 'Ibaadah that was done without observing the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam). Just like some documents require a particular stamp for them to be recognised legally, 'Ibaadah also will gain merit and appreciation when it has ''the stamp of Sunnah'' on it. This is because Allah Ta'aala has sent Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) as a model that must be followed. Therefore, all Ibaadaat must be done according to this very model so that they may be accepted by Allah Ta'aala.
Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) is the beloved of Allah Ta'aala. The Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) is highly appreciated by Allah Ta'aala because the Ada (act) of the beloved is always appreciable and admirable. Those who follow the beloved also become the beloved of Allah Ta'aala.
Neglecting the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam)
Neglecting the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) indicates a lack of love for Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam). How can anyone who claims to love Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) allow himself to act contrary to what Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) did! Is this also called love? It is more likely that one is referring to something other than love, for love flows out of admiration and admiration makes you follow and imitate the one whom you admire. That is why Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) said: "He who loves my Sunnah loves me." Therefore, the admiration which one must have for Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam), cannot exist where there is negligence towards his Sunnah.
A person must ask himself why his hair cut is according to the fashion of others instead of the advice Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam). He must ask himself why his pants cover his ankles while it is against the practice of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) and despite knowing the fact that it is a detestable thing in the eyes of Allah Ta'aala. Why and why and why does he not respect the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) when performing marriages in particular and in all aspects of life in general? There are so many questions which cannot be answered without hesitation and which are a pretence of one's love for Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam). Otherwise, it is inconceivable that a person who recognises the beauty of the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahou A'laihi Wasallam) to be charmed by the charm of someone else.
