Sunan-ul-Huda
There are principles that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) practiced regularly and he advised us to practice. These principles are called Sunan-ul-Huda. That is, principles that keeps a person on the right path which is called Hidaayah.
Sunnat-e-Mu'akkadah is among the Sunan-ul-Huda that must not be neglected. As long as a person practices the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam), this will be a guarantee of Hidaayah for him. That is why the 'Ulama have emphasised greatly on Sunnah. One must not take Sunnah lightly. It is good to know that neglecting Sunnah is a degree close to Haraam. Moreover, if one makes it habit, then it becomes even worse.
As a result, many people ignore the importance of keeping the beard the length of a fist and not letting the trousers or pyjamas cover the ankles. People underestimate these things. Yet this is something which is very clear and which is mentioned in the Hadith without any ambiguity. This is even more serious as he remains with it 24 hours a day. People who have knowledge know that it is a sin. Committing sins in public worsens the gravity of a sin which is already serious. It is an encouragement for those who did not yet practice it or those who are thinking of doing it, just as it can be a discouragement for those who are observing it. Thus, the gravity of this is at 4 levels. Firstly, it is a sin. Secondly, it is aggravated upon persistence and thirdly, it becomes an encouragement for some and fourthly it is a discouragement for others. Thus, this sin has a multi-level gravity. If this is such in regards to Sunnah, then do we realise how bad it is when a person neglects a Farz or Waajib or commits a sin?
