Reciting Ya Nur 11 times and blowing on the eyes or reciting Ya Qayyum 11 times and blowing on the head after the Farz Salah

Question: 

What does the Shari’ah say about reciting Ya Nur 11 times and blowing on the eyes or reciting Ya Qayyum 11 times and blowing on the head after the Farz Salah?

Answer: 

This is a kind of Ruqya which is permissible according to the Shari’ah. Rukya is a formula which is recited and blown on a certain part of the body in order to get cure from some disease or in order to be protected from some difficulty. This kind of Ruqya is permissible according to the general sense of the Hadith reported in Muslim Shareef where Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

"There is nothing wrong with Ruqyah as long as there is nothing Shirk in it."

An-Nur and Al-Qayyum are two attributes of Allah Ta’ala. Reciting these two attributes after the Farz Salah for a certain specific purpose should be permissible as it contains nothing besides invocating Allah Ta’ala through His attributes. And invoking Allah Ta’ala through His attributes is something very commendable and recommended.

"Allah has the most beautiful names, so call Him by them ..." (S7 V 180) 

Therefore, it is permissible to recite Ya Nur or Ya Qayyum after the Farz Salah since it is approved and authorised by the Hadith which is reported in Muslim Shareef.

As for the Ruqya which is prohibited and labelled as Shirk, it applies to the Ruqya which was in force during the time of the Jahiliyyah. It was the Ruqya which were practiced by the Muhshriks that contained the names of idols and matters of Shirk.
